Five tips when using Zoom
As school starts back up and businesses are still working remotely, Zoom has increasingly become the application of choice for video conferencing. In fact, since the pandemic started the use of Zoom has increased over 200%.
We have 5 tips when using Zoom to keep you looking professional and less foolish!
Learn the platform. Prior to your meeting, do a test run with a friend or colleague. Research on YouTube about the different features Zoom offers and how to use them effectively during your calls.
Use the video option every time possible. I know, I know. You are working from home and sometimes in your PJs. But you want to be sure your face is being seen not only for professional reasons, but relational reasons too. The world needs to feel connected right now. With the camera on though comes great responsibility.
Be aware of yourself and your surroundings. Yes, this means your background. Are you in your closet with your bras hanging up to dry behind you? Are your kids able to run within the video angle? Pick a spot with a solid background and the least amount of interruptions. And for the love of Pete, DON'T TAKE THE VIDEO CALL IN YOUR BED. Ew. Also, check yourself. It sounds vain, but dress for success. Food in your teeth, a rogue booger or wild hair can be quite the distraction.
Wear headphones. Wearing headphones alleviates the possibility of an echo or feedback; you know the noise that's high pitch and cringy. It also allows you to stay focused.
Become a pro at the mute button. How to mute yourself is so vital when working from home especially if you have other people, kids or pets living there. When Amazon drops a package and your dog goes crazy, those on the other line do not want to hear all the chaos.
